Usually getting 2 groups in your class to achieve 21% is not something to be smiling from within about. There was a small whoop within today when 2 groups got the O2 percentage to be 21% in a recent experiment.
I do not doubt there were experimental imperfections but all in all to get that result was a delight.
Applied maths going good oh on the Projectiles, finished Resistance with 6 physics, 1st years are ALL up to date with their experiment books, although some are not using the graph pages for Diagrams :(
Making CO2 & O2 tomorrow ...
Physics expts weds & thurs next week !
So long!

Staff meetings
I have not to complain too much about these meetings as sometimes some good comes out of them. Mr Greene and I have almost finished the Physics Department Plan, we put in some key revisions this evening and now have a working scheme of work to follow .... if all goes well.
Debate on the Uniform will heat up with the wagons circling for & against the polo shirt ... mmm I think that something is wrong, but that there are things to relax and things to tighten. Good points made with regard to the welfare of the female students. Some other students need to realise that their actions might provoke a reaction and not one they wanted.
Applied maths, M & B in went through the last exam. Projectiles tomorrow.
Hone started on Athmosphere as we turn for home with the exams looming big on the Horizon. Set up for the amount of oxygen in air test tomorrow. Have to say was very tempted to do the old 'test' for O2, because it is easy but alas less easy, more rewarding.
Yeats, some members of the class still without their journals signed, another found and put on detention for Thursday. Get them done.
Physics, went through the Resistor laws, and proved them, still not getting any joy with the electric field, MG looked at it ... likes it alas ...
2nd year mix .... not the best I know they are last class of the day but I expect far better ... did the metal in Acid experiment .... mmmm they write it down but do they see the point?

Science Week
Well It all started so brightly, we had many plans. Our Science department meetings kept being put off which meant when we registered the Annual 1st year science Quiz (fifth birthday this year) it was too late to get the promo packs. One would fear this will be the last time such packs will be offered.
We again sent 6 bright minds into the ISTA science table quiz for 6th years. Ms OMahony and Ms Morrow were keeping them company, as Ms Maye is on the local association and had to work administering the session.
Ms Carey and Ms Mahony have organised a play that we will put on show for 2nd & 1st years today!
Things that did not happen include, Rocket design and Science Spelling Bee !!!
There is always next year
Happy science week!

Well today the 14th of November is the 1st day of Blogging about what goes on in S8 HCS, thanks to Ms C Shannon for making me see the use of a blogg.
Well we met up with Hone this morning, and we talked about the old Neutralisatiuon of Acids and Bases. Last thursday we had seen it happen as a demo. We used a pH meter, a solution of Andrews antacid Vs Vinegar .... Today we did the theory behind it .... how the H + OH makes water and what is left makes a Salt.
Greenschools and it was transfer time. Avalon came in, I'll have them twice this week as we celebrate Science week with no transfer of the science classes.
Tasks set were to get samples of water from local sources .... and a new compost rota was set up. Straight to work with paper recycling and examination of the rooms with/out recycling facilities.
Phys 6th test on Static & early current electricity before their P/T meeting tomorrow.
